Hydroxyethyl Cellulose

Overview

Hydroxyethyl Cellulose is an non-ionic water-soluble polymer, it is white to slightly yellow, odorless and tasteless powdered solid. It is mainly used as viscosifier and fluid loss agent in oildrilling.

Remarks: The above viscosity values are all obtained using Brookfield Viscometer at 25℃, LVTD.

Characteristics:

1.Rheology Modification: HEC –5K has excellent thickening and rheological properties. It can modify the viscosity and flow behavior of fluids, making it useful in controlling the rheology of drilling fluids, cement slurries, fracturing fluids, and other petroleum formulations. By adjusting the concentration of HEC, the viscosity can be tailored to meet specific requirements for each application.

2.Fluid Loss Control: HEC –5K is effective in reducing fluid loss in drilling and cementing operations. When added to drilling fluids or cement slurries, it forms a thin, impermeable barrier on the wellbore wall, minimizing the loss of fluid into the formation. This property helps maintain wellbore stability and prevent formation damage.

3.Suspension and Stabilization: HEC –5K acts as a suspension agent, helping to prevent settling or sedimentation of solid particles in various petroleum formulations. It enhances the stability of drilling fluids, well completion fluids, and specialty chemicals, ensuring uniform distribution and preventing clogging or blockages.

4.Water Retention: HEC –5K has the ability to retain water, even in high-temperature environments. This property is beneficial in applications such as cementing, where it helps maintain the consistency and workability of the cement slurry, even under challenging conditions.

5.Compatibility: HEC –5K is compatible with a wide range of other additives and chemicals commonly used in the petroleum industry. It can be easily incorporated into different formulations without causing compatibility issues or adverse reactions.

Environmental Considerations: HEC –5K is generally considered to be a biodegradable and environmentally friendly material. Its use in petroleum applications aligns with the industry’s increasing focus on sustainable practices and reducing environmental impact.
